Taking Advantage of Technology to Improve Margins, Patient Engagement and Revenue
Aeris¹ recently released a white paper on remote patient monitoring and its conclusion is that software application providers and healthcare device manufacturers have the opportunity to “take advantage of technology to improve margins, patient engagement and revenue.” This opportunity comes from the fact that there’s currently “pressure to serve more patients with fewer resources.”
With all of its capabilities, MediPense’s RxPense device is exactly the kind of machine that’s poised to thrive in the current climate. It’s got what patients, doctors and health insurers are looking for in a home health hub and it has the potential to do great things for all three of these groups.
Seniors and people with chronic conditions are those who stand to gain the most from the use of the product. It can do things like put them in direct contact with their doctors, make sure they get the right medication at the right time and notify caregivers if there’s suddenly an issue like a blood pressure spike. It also gives a person the ability to have a physician go over their vitals and access their medical history without the patient ever having to leave their home. These are features that hold a strong appeal for many patients. They’re also features that can help patients achieve better outcomes and keep them adhering to their treatment plans.
Those in the healthcare system stand to gain quite a bit from the use of RxPense as well. With as many as 10% of all hospital admissions coming as a result of medical noncompliance, RxPense has the potential to make a serious dent in that number. Fewer hospital admissions would save the healthcare system a significant amount of money and also free up valuable resources. The product can also be used within the walls of hospitals to take care of some of the tasks currently handled by nurses and to keep a record of a patient’s medical adherence, too.
With increased pressure on physicians in public care to treat more patients with fewer dollars, certainly the use of a device like RxPense to perform telemedicine, remote monitoring and medication dispensing is ideal.
Regardless of location, specialists are able to remote consult more patients per day through telemedicine. Hospitals can continue care in a lower cost home setting though telemedicine.
The use of RxPense stands to benefit healthcare insurance providers as well. Users of the device can generally expect to remain in better health than people in similar situations who don’t have the machine to aid them. As such, they’re less likely to see their conditions deteriorate and find themselves admitted to hospital. This means that insurers don’t have to pay out nearly as much for medical claims and that’s great for their bottom lines. Even if they have to cover the cost of the machines for their policy holders, the insurance companies will still profit from seeing the devices gain widespread acceptance.
Let’s consider the continuum of care. Through remote patient monitoring, healthcare providers, managed care facilities and insurance companies can maintain a complete audit trail of compliance and health history. Reduced health care costs, reduced litigation, better patient outcomes — everyone is a winner!
